I must be doing something right...

I personally know I could be doing so much more to teach my children how to be good people and that is goal this year. But when things like this happen it gives me some relief. This Christmas I was trying to prepare Jared and Maven mentally for the gifts they would be receiving from Santa this year. So when they wrote Santa their letter they were only allowed to ask for 3 things each. They usually get a lot more but with all our medical bills we have we really couldn't do more. They asked why 3 things and I replied well there are a lot of kids in the world and we need to be considerate of Santa, so that everyone can get presents, plus you guys too many toys. So they began writing the letter to Santa super excited. Later that week we had the opportunity to go a homeless shelter as a mutual activity for the Young Women and I took the kids with me. There the YW served food to the homeless. There were lots of little kids there as well. Jared and Maven were a little confused and sad. Right before Christmas we moved the kids bedrooms around and put in bags toys they didn't use anymore, they were super upset that I was taking away their toys. I told them we were going to give them to a shelter for the kids there. They began by giving some of their favorite toys, so that we can add to the "give away pile" because they had too much and maybe it would be some else favorite dino or doll. I choked up. We gathered the bags and put them in the garage. I want to reorganize some closets and gather the some more things but I haven't quit done it. On our way home last week from taking Jared to school Maven asked why we hadn't taken the things over and I told her i need to do some more things. She continued asking questions as to what else they would need, I replied, cloth food maybe even furniture so they can start new life. She said well then lets go to the store and buy some food and take it to them or what else can we do Mami? I said well people do food drives like that everyone can donate and it will be a lot more things. She said well lets do it. I was a little distracted by some one who cut me off, I started to mumble and replied, do what Maven? She replied the food drive and was that "moron" in front of us? Inside joke and completely out of the subject but when cars cut me off I have the bad habit of calling them "morons", Jared and Maven asked if it was a bad word I said no that's his name... Well a couple of days later Roy was driving with them and a car cut Roy off and Maven said Daddy that was "moron", Mami sees him all the time. I had some explaining to do after that one!!! So back to the subject Maven and Jared want to invite you guys " our family members" if you'd like and have things you don't need to donate it for their toy, cloth & food drive.
